Cruise Ship Rooms and Suites Best Cabin Staterooms

The main pool deck, for instance, is likely right above you when you are in a midship cabin — not a long walk away. The reason to consider an oceanview room is if a view is important to you, but the price of a higher-category stateroom is not possible. Alternatively, sometimes the price difference between an inside room and an oceanview is not too large, and someone may want to upgrade their room option at not a lot of extra cost. On cruise ships, you don't have a maid; you have a "cabin steward." Your steward will clean your cabin and make your bed each morning and turn down your bed each evening. DVD players, radios or other music players might be available on some cruise lines or certain cabin types, but are not standard. You'll often see the term "cabin category" on a cruise or travel agent website.

The so-called ''guarantee'' cabin grades can turn to be among the best booking options. The "guarantee stateroom" booking allows you to pick up a category, not a cabin. In case the category is sold out you'll be proposed a higher category lodging. The first cabins to be booked are both thecheapest and the most expensive ones, be aware when you choose to test your luck.

The 5 most desirable cabin locations on any cruise ship

5 Ways to Get a Cruise Ship Cabin UpgradeFree and low-cost cabin upgrades are rare, but not impossible. Staterooms under discos, sport playgrounds, gym centers are usually very noisy. Cabins under Lido Deck (aka Pool Deck) are also among those to avoid.

Hidden cost of cruising

Some barely fit two chairs while others come complete with loungers and cocktail tables. Additionally, on one-way cruises where shore views matter most, you'll want to plan carefully for which side of the ship is right for you. When it comes to choosing suites, it's best to figure out how much space you really need, what amenities are important to you and what you can afford to spend.

Carnival Freedom

Those that did, usually offered very little interactivity to find the configuration and location of a stateroom. One would get lost and perhaps bored by the opening of dozens of windows searching for information. Interior rooms on a cruise ship are generally the cheapest option that you'll find on board.

Here are some factors to consider when choosing the best room on a cruise ship. Also, every ship has a handful of unique staterooms that often come with a slightly lower price tag because they don’t match other cabins in the category. It could be a balcony cabin with a smaller porthole-like opening in the ship’s hull or an odd-shaped interior cabin on the same plush hallway with the ship’s fanciest suites. Despite the small size, cruise cabins can often sleep three to four people. There are traditionally two twin beds that can be separated or joined together to make one queen bed that sleeps two people. However, most cruise balconies are around square feet (roughly 4-6′ x 10′).

Let's review the different types of cruise accommodations to help you pick the best cabin on a ship according to your needs and style. On the other hand, if you plan to spend most of your time exploring ports and partaking in onboard activities, the type and location of cabin might be of less importance. Your cruise itinerary might also influence your choice of accommodation. For scenic cruises, such as those in Alaska or the Norwegian fjords, a balcony might be worth the splurge to enjoy the magnificent views in relative peace. A balcony breakfast while sailing along a fjord will be an experience to remember.

Seabourn Ovation

There's nothing quite like being able to look forward from your room when on a ship approaching a port or to watch the wake of the ship from a rear-facing cabin. The cabin deck just below that top deck of cabins can be a good choice. Note that on some ships, all or most of the rear-facing cabins are large, pricey suites, but this isn't always the case. Carnival Cruise Line ships, for instance, typically have quite a few non-suite accommodations at their backs. On very large ships, where activity areas are spread far apart, midship cabins also offer the advantage of being at the center of everything.

The mini-suites also usually have a curtain that can be drawn to separate the sleeping and sitting areas. This feature is ideal for couples (or friends) who have different sleeping habits. Early risers can sit in the sitting area or balcony, and enjoy the early morning sunrise without waking up their significant other. If you’re planning a getaway for you and a special someone, we’ve got a range of cruise suites to serve as a romantic backdrop. A private balcony, luxurious bedding and in-suite dining are just a few of the upgraded amenities you’ll enjoy.

That's a recent trend; the oldest ships in a cruise line's fleet might have more ocean-view rooms than balcony cabins, while the newest ships will have mainly balcony rooms. All cabins come with basic amenities, such as housekeeping and turndown service, basic toiletries, climate control, and the like. Suites, the most luxurious rooms on any cruise ship, come with a variety of extras and privileges. Those can include everything from priority boarding to in-cabin bars.

Families might look for cabins with connecting doors or extra bed options. All our ships have staterooms designed to accommodate guests with mobility disabilities and other disabilities that require the features of an accessible stateroom. Accessible staterooms range from 159 square feet to 298 square feet, and offer a five-foot turning radius in sleeping areas, plus bathrooms and sitting areas for easy maneuverability. You’ll be happy to know that room service is available for your cabin. Don’t expect it to get too cold, and it certainly won’t freeze anything. The holy grail of the frequent traveler is the complimentary, or at least cheap, upgrade to a nicer airline seat or hotel room than they paid for.

Once we got seated, I decided to skip the main dining scene altogether, anticipating a repeat of last night’s chaos or worse. So, I headed to the buffet for something quick and found they had exactly what I would’ve ordered in the dining room – vegetable lasagna and prime rib. Woodward Dream Cruise set for August 19

when is the woodward dream cruise

The ad hoc cruising caused traffic jams on many summer evenings, automobile accidents and included many cruisers drinking and driving. With the organizing of the Dream Cruise most of these bad influences simply disappeared. Car enthusiasts can enjoy some classic cars before the main event from noon to 7 p.m. Anyone can participate although, those not driving a classic car are asked to stay out of the two right lanes nearest to the curb. Ford will have a second display in Berkley, where it traditionally shows off its latest performance vehicles.

Woodward Dream Cruise returns this weekend. Here's what to know about parking, events and more

Birmingham — Here comes Detroit’s annual auto-palooza. The Woodward Dream Cruise was founded in 1995 and goes through nine Oakland County communities along 16 miles of Woodward Avenue. The event will happen on Saturday, Aug. 19, from 9 a.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase on-site; no outside food and drink will be allowed. Official cruise merchandise will be available for purchase there as well. Pre-registering is available online or on the day of, sign-up will be available at  Shrine Catholic High School.

Dream Cruise events Friday and Saturday

Ferndale officially kicks off the Dream Cruise on Friday, Aug. 19, with its annual Emergency Vehicle Show, 5 p.m. In addition to those familiar events, Ferndale will also have a Storyland of Floats featuring Detroit Thanksgiving Day parade floats, live rock music and an electric go-kart play zone for the rug rats. Rain or shine, the official event is the highlight of an unofficial summer of cruising along “America’s main street” as enthusiasts gather to celebrate the automobile on weeknights and weekends. The Cruise really gets rockin’ a week before with Motor Trend Presents Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge at M1 Concourse in Pontiac. Prior to the organizing of the Dream Cruise residents of the west side of Detroit and the western Detroit suburban communities had been cruising Woodward Avenue since the 1940s.

Police departments from each community patrol on foot, horseback and vehicles during the Cruise to ensure a safe and family-friendly environment for everyone. A team of amateur radio operators also serve as additional “eyes and ears” of law enforcement officials along the Cruise route. The Woodward Dream Cruise is an alcohol-free, family-oriented event. As public safety is paramount, cruisers are asked to obey all rules of the road. One of the biggest gatherings will be at the Cruise’s epicenter, Memorial Park at 13 Mile and Woodward, where a variety of car clubs congregate. You’ll see anything from a hot pink 1955 Ford T-bird to a 1,000-horse Chevy Nova dragster to a striped 427 Shelby Cobra.

Pontiac Transportation Museum shines spotlight on city's auto industry impact

The Dream Cruise is one of the largest outdoor automotive events in the world, drawing more than 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars from around the world. It links together nine cities on America’s oldest highway. Other community events along the route include a classic car parade in Berkley and the Pontiac Classic Car Show on Friday, and a Saturday Ford Bronco Show in Pleasant Ridge.

Public parking is available along or near the cruise route. M1 Concourse will host its second annual Woodward Dream Show on Friday, August 19th in Pontiac with some 600 examples of the Cruise’s finest vehicles. In particular, the event will celebrate 90 years of the 1932 Ford “Deuce”, 100 years of the Lincoln brand, and 55 years of the Pontiac Firebird. Ford is also going electric and will show off its new F-150 Lightning pickup and Mustang Mach-E at its Ferndale activation.

What Ford is showing off at the 2023 Woodward Dream Cruise

Registration is $40 until Wednesday  and will be $45 the day of the race. WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) and WOMC-FM  (104.3) will be broadcasting live from Birmingham. Detroit — Auto enthusiasts from around the globe will rev up their engines and descend on Metro Detroit this weekend for the highly-anticipated Woodward Dream Cruise.

Where do folks park?

Past cruises have showcased everything from the mid-engine Ford GT to the 7-electric-motors Mustang Mach-E 1400 (as in 1,400 horsepower). "Collaborating with the Woodward Dream Cruise is very important to Ford Motor Company because we strive to contribute and give back in meaningful ways to the communities where we live, work... and cruise." Starting as early as Thursday, car enthusiasts will crowd Woodward and surrounding communities to showcase their wheels.

The show will feature over 50 Fords dating to 1932,  nearly 30 Lincolns and Firebirds, over 100 Corvettes, and more than 50 American classic hot rods. Visitors will be able to purchase food, and official Woodward Dream Cruise merchandise all day. It began as an effort by Nelson House plus a group of volunteers seeking to raise money for a soccer field in Ferndale. They also wanted to re-create the nostalgic era of the 1950s and '60s, with music and cars roaming down Woodward. The first year brought in 250,000 people and has grown each year since then. Big-finned Caddys, classic Corvettes, souped-up dragsters, and even the venerable 1997 Honda Civic Type R, which turns 25 this year, will be lined up bumper-to-bumper Saturday for the 27th annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

Passengers can board at any RED SMART or FAST bus stops along Woodward. To 5 p.m., this car show will take place in the Walgreens lot at Woodward Ave.  and surrounding streets like Haynes to Adams Road, Worth Street to Woodward and Webster Street to Adams Road. Birmingham shops will be open, and there will be sponsor exhibits for spectators to enjoy. Auto enthusiasts from all over the world, including New Zealand, Japan and Australia, flock to the cruise annually for a taste of car history in Michigan. There are all sorts of events throughout the weekend, starting Friday. They come out to cruise Woodward every year for the Dream Cruise with this '46 Chevy truck.

Ferndale is also home to Mustang Alley, a sprawling buffet of every generation of the iconic pony car — and the largest car show on the 16-mile stretch of the Dream Cruise. In addition, the event website shared a Facebook account where the community shares more information about where visitors can find parking and other events. SMART bus encourages passengers to plan ahead before their trips due to possible delays leading up to the cruise and the day of the event. Attendees can hop on a free SMART dream cruise shuttle from 8 Mile to Pontiac.

Mustang Alley will take place with Ford Motor Co. from 10 a.m. With the entrance starting at Hilton Road at  East Nine Mile Road. Pre-registration is closed but vehicles not pre-registered can enter at about 10 a.m. Parking for this event can be found in one of six Birmingham parking structures; metered parking will also be  available.

This had resulted in the federal government's Corporate Average Fuel Economy regulations of 1975 and the proliferation, temporarily, of more fuel-efficient and less powerful automobiles. However, the Woodward Dream Cruise also welcomes vehicles of all models whose owners have either scrupulously maintained or customized their car to create a unique vehicle or statement. At M1 Concourse, over 600 cars in 13 classes including  hot rods, race cars, muscle cars and cruisers will be on display and compete in exhibition competitions.

Gatherings of car clubs, old friends and old jalopies will meet up and down Woodward. Further north on the avenue will be Chevrolet’s Birmingham display. Expect the new, 670-horsepower Corvette Z06 — engorged with the most powerful, naturally aspirated V-8 production engine ever produced —  to anchor a lot-full of the brand’s car and truck offerings. Dodge isn’t the only manufacturer with a big presence at the Cruise. With so many car people on Woodward, the event is catnip for companies seeking to show off their latest toys.

We love to see all the great family moments happening along the avenue today. There will also be a Grudge Match competition with a bracket-full of hot rod shops — Tavarish, Westin Champlin, Demonology among them — squaring off with drag racers built for the event from Dodge Direct Connection parts. From noon to 7 p.m., live music will be performed in the arena next to the biergarten. Purchasing a ticket includes no charge on parking and shuttle, and a better view to see the cars up-close.

Fjords Cruises Norway Fjords Cruise Deals

norwegian fjord cruise

Others offer in-depth experiences of numerous fjords calling mainly at small communities. While you’ll see spectacular scenery throughout the voyage, the number of fjords visited by the ship is actually very small. Sailing into Northern Norway’s narrow Trollfjord is a wonderful experience and during the summer the ships also sail along the Geirangerfjord, but otherwise these are not fjord-focused voyages. While not cruise ships, the vessels of Hurtigruten and Havila Voyages are well fitted out with several relaxing lounges and excellent dining. They don’t offer the entertainment options you’ll find on more typical cruise lines, rather letting you focus on the ever-changing scenery.

The fjord region is one of the relatively few World Heritage Sites to be listed for both aspects. Tucked away in its own little world, a cruise along the fjord towards Geiranger is like cracking open a fairy tale of your own. Waterfalls cascade from the snowy peaks above, down their green mountainsides. Sailing into Olden port early in the morning is a real wake-up call, complete with unbelievable views and cool, cleansing Norwegian air.

From Bergen to the Fjords and Svalbard: Norway Cruise Port Highlights

For the cultural loves, the Bydgdøy peninsula is home to several museums like the outdoor museum, Folkemuseet and the Viking ship museum. Downtown Oslo, is bustling with trendy restaurants, bars, cafes and green open spaces such as the Vigeland Sculpture Park and Ekeberg Park. In conclusion, Norway's fjords offer something for every traveller, be it a comprehensive cruise experience or a DIY exploration. The key is to choose the experience that aligns best with your own preferred travel style.

When evaluating different options, consider first and foremost the route plan to determine how many fjords are included and the timing of these visits. Situated on Norway’s southwestern coast, Bergen is surrounded by mountains and fjords, including the second-longest in the world – Sognefjord. A truly welcoming sight, you’ll be greeted by rows of colourfully painted homes and buildings, equally as charming lit up at night as they are in the bright of day. Fred Olsen offers five-night to eight-night cruises from Southampton and Newcastle in the spring, summer and early fall.

Any one factor can drastically alter the cruising experience, for the better, or for the worse. Although the villages all have pretty settings, there isn't a lot to do in the ports themselves. It's wise to book an excursion or at least make a plan to do something with your time off the ship.

Norway's weather in May and September can be a bit chillier and rainier. Natural wonders and once-in-a-lifetime thrills await on a Norway cruise. From the towering mountains of Bergen to the dramatic waterfalls of Alesund, Norway is full of breathtaking surprises. Embark on one our Norwegian fjords cruises and marvel at the spectacular landscapes, verdant mountains, and gushing waterfalls that surround you.

Yes - you can view the Northern Lights on one of our Norwegian cruises, however we can't guarantee it! The aurora borealis is near impossible to predict, but sightings are more likely on clear nights between October and March, and odds increase the further north you travel. Cruises to Tromsø, the capital of the Arctic, should give you a decent chance. To view our special Northern Lights voyages, visit our dedicated page.

Two companies—Hurtigruten and Havila Voyages—operate the route, both offering a cruise-like experience for visitors choosing to take a lengthier voyage. Norway’s wish to preserve the unique environment of the fjords means there will be major changes coming to the cruises in the region very soon. If seeing the fjords from a ship intrigues you, consider adding in one or more of these trips into a road trip itinerary. Viking Ocean Cruises also incorporates at least one fjord into several of its Northern Europe itineraries, such as the 8-day ‘Viking shores & fjords’ sailing from Amsterdam to Bergen via the Geirangerfjord. The ships call at many of the 34 port calls for just a few minutes, enough time to unload and load cargo and passengers.

Bergen offers visitors the opportunity to take the Fløibanen funicular up to the top of Mount Fløyen to enjoy the famous view of the city. While it’s a fun experience, walking up and down the well-maintained path is a fantastic alternative for the fit and enthusiastic. However, the small ports are often within an hour or two of major attractions such as glacier hikes, mountain pass road trips, or breathtaking fjord viewpoints. Cruise line excursions are notoriously expensive, but they are not your only option. While not a fjords-specific itinerary, the Norwegian coastal voyage is also well worth considering.

While a road trip gives you access to fantastic viewpoints, nothing beats seeing the fjords from the water. Only then can you truly appreciate the sheer size and scale of these natural waterways. Fly-cruises aren’t available, but you can take a leisurely sailing from Southampton with us.

Uncover the Truth: Cruise Control on the Ninja 400

Uncover the Truth: Cruise Control on the Ninja 400

Cruise control is a system that automatically controls the speed of a vehicle, allowing the driver to take their foot off the gas pedal. This can be a convenient feature for long road trips or in stop-and-go traffic. The Ninja 400, a popular motorcycle from Kawasaki, does not have cruise control as a standard feature.

There are a number of aftermarket cruise control systems available for the Ninja 400. These systems typically use a throttle lock to hold the throttle in place, and a speed sensor to maintain the desired speed. Aftermarket cruise control systems can be a good option for riders who want the convenience of cruise control without having to purchase a new motorcycle.
